Suicide Squad doesn’t even arrive in cinemas until July, but a sequel to the upcoming DC supervillain team-up is apparently already being developed. It has been reported that studio bosses are so happy with the film so far that plans are being made for Suicide Squad 2.
The news was first mentioned in a feature in The Wrapconcerning the schedule for director David Ayer. Variety writer Justin Kroll followed this with a series of tweets that seemed to support the news:
Suicide Squad tells the story of a group of death row supervillains who are employed covertly by the US government to perform dangerous missions, in return for reduced prison sentences. It stars Jared Leto as Joker, alongside Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Last year, Smith revealed that Leto didn’t break character throughout the entire time the movie was in production. In a recent interview posted on DCEU Facts, the actor confirmed his unconventional way of working. “I did interact,” Leto said. “But I did it through the eyes of the Joker, which is really fun. It was fun to play that game.”
Suicide Squad is due for release on August 5, 2016
